Deesis

Mirror-symmetrical image composition with the enthroned Christ in the vertical central axis. He presents the opened Gospel and has his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing. The Mother of God and John the Baptist flank him on either side. Rich ornamentation of the throne. Detailed Church Slavonic inscriptions.

painted on a gold background,
faces and hands show fine crackling (signs of the early period of origin in an Old Believer’s studio),
