Multi-figured depiction of high-quality painting.
This icon shows a theological representation of the creation of the world and the divine judgment.
Description of the icon:
• Top center: Christ as Ruler of the World (Pantokrator) sits in a heavenly mandorla, surrounded by angels. He symbolizes the divine order and the Last Judgment.
• Upper half: The heavenly sphere is represented by a vaulted firmament with stars. On the left, you can see the sun, on the right, the moon, which indicates the cosmic order.
• Center: A central mountain with trees, animals, and rivers represents the world created by God. The animals are arranged symmetrically and symbolize the paradisiacal harmony.
• Left and right: Groups of saints, prophets, and righteous people stand in order, waiting for the divine judgment. They are depicted in festive clothing, while some children in white symbolize purity and innocence.
• Bottom: A pool of water with white swans could indicate the earthly paradise or baptism as entry into the divine realm.
Meaning:
The icon connects creation and divine judgment. It shows the separation between the righteous and the damned and refers to the end times. Its symbolism is deeply rooted in Orthodox theology and serves as visual theology for believers.
